Job Description for Chief Investment Officer

About KIC

Korea Investment Corporation is a global investment management company established in July 2005 by the Korean government manage part of the country’s foreign exchange reserves and other public funds. KIC manages approximately USD $25 billion in assets for the Bank of Korea and the ministry of Stratege and Finance across both equity and fixed-income products. KIC will expand its investments up to USD $30 billion in 2009.

KIC strives to preserve long-term purchsinf power of the assets entrusted and ecxeed investment target return within a justifiable level of risk through investing well diversified, foreign currency denominated assets transacted in the international capital market-based upon the research and analysis of global macro-economy, capital market and investment asset characteristics.

Responbilities

The Chief Investment Officer shall asume leadership in managing the investment program under established policies and procedures, and in implementing decisions.

• Lead and guide the following investment functions (but not limited to) : investment strategy, in-house equity & fixed income investments, indirect investments, alternative investments
• Recommand investment policy and asset allocation for approval by the Steering Committee;
• Recommand investment strategies, portfolio structure and manager structure for each asset class as well as related benchmark and investment guidelines;
• Ensure best practice in conducting external manager searches, selection and monitoring
• Ensure the investment activities and operations are conducted in accordance with the best practice and in the best interest of the Fund
• Ensure monitoring of the global capital markets, global economy, the newist trend in asset management inderstry, conducting research and analyses on their impact on the Fund and taking appropriate measures
• Ensure the best functioning of each division through appropriate recruitment, direction, and supervision of investment staff

Qualifications & Experience

Master’s degree or equivalent or higher qualification in relevant fields, with more than 10 years of professional, full-time supervisiory or management experience in multifle asset class investment portfolio management and/or manager selection, monitoring and evaluation experience for a pension plan, endowment, or related financial institution. Candidates with a Ph.D. will be preferred.

Given the important responsibilities, preferred experience will include similar responsibilities at other public funds such as pension or endowment plans where innovative investment strategies have been employed.

Leadership & Management Behaviaral Competencies

The Chief Investment Officer shall asume leadership in managing the investment program under established policies and procedures, and in implementing decisions.

• Comprehensive knowledge in the principles and theories of fund investment andadministration, including knowledge of private equity, hedge funds, etc.
• Comprehensive knowledge in the principles and theories of investment as well as the regal and regulatory environment for investment
• Thorough knowledge of organizational management skills needed to achieve effective and efficient operation;
• Ability to oversee the performance of KIC staff, outside investment advisoes and external investment managers with respect to the provision of services
• Ability to assist in the monitoring of investment performance and the modification of investment guidelines, as appropriate;
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with management, staff, and the public;
• Ability to remain impartial, be tactful, and to exorcise independent judgement and descrition;
• Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
• A strong leader with the ability to manage an investment team.
• Self starter-with the ability to take new ideas from concept through implementation and dynamic and creative personality with the willingness to identify new and unique investment approaches
